Whey Protein Prices – Why Are They So High Now?

For those of you that have purchased whey protein products recently, I’m sure you noticed the price was very expensive. As an example, Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey Protein (Gold Standard) went from $25 six months ago to its current price of $38. Dymatize’s Elite Whey went from $25 to $43. Now, these aren’t your minor price increases. These are huge, with anywhere from 50-75% increases depending on the product.

So what’s causing all this? The supplement industry is facing big increases to the price of milk protein, which includes whey protein, milk protein isolates and concentrates, and anything else derived from cow’s milk. This is the result of unprecedented high demand for milk products in China as well as other developing countries. For all you economics majors we all know what happens when demand outstrips supply. The price must go up to compensate. Just like the price of oil (gasoline, fuel) is controlled by supply and demand, so too are milk (whey protein) products.

But prices couldn’t have increased by that much, could it? Unfortunately, yes. If you bought a gallon of milk recently, you might have paid $4.50 or more for it. Starbucks recently raised the price on a cup of coffee by 9 cents. You may think 9 cents is nothing compared to $15 or $20, but Starbucks sells millions of cups of coffee every day. This translates into billions of dollars in additional revenue. A supplement company may only sell hundreds or even thousands of units per day. As a result, their prices must increase more. If they don’t, they lose money instead of profit. There is no incentive for a company to produce a product that loses money. When supplement companies raise their wholesale prices (the price we pay), retailers like ourselves must do the same.

I don’t care if prices are higher or not, I’m still not paying that much for my protein powder. Well, it looks like you’re gonna have to. From what it looks like, prices are going to continue to increase for the foreseeable future. You’re only alternative would be to find other sources of protein such as egg or casein. You can also look for whey proteins that haven’t yet gone up in price yet like DNA Mighty Whey Protein which currently sells for $24.99 for 6.3lbs and 80 servings.

Until next time.

Winadrol: A behemoth in the making

Hello All,

I would like to take a moment to talk about a new product that has come out recently called Winadrol, made by CTD Labs. With over 20 years in the supplement retail industry, we have seen many products come and go. Many are hyped so much before they are released, they disappear once people realize it's not that great a product. The ones that do manage to make it sometimes still aren't very good products, but they continue to sell only because they are advertised so much.

This is why I would like to talk about Winadrol. This product literally came out of nowhere. When we decided to pick this up in our stores, there was no hype about it whatsoever. In fact, nobody here had even heard of the product before. The only reason we decided to take a chance on it was because we have carried this company's other products before (CLA, Flaxseed Oil, etc.).

First of all, let me say that when new products come in we require all of our employees to try it out to see if it's any good. If it works great, it stays on our shelves. On the other, if it sucks, it will never set foot in any of our stores ever again. Of all the products we have ever carried before, Winadrol has received the most positive feedback from our employees than anything else past or present.

So, what is Winadrol anyway? Well, it basically is being advertised as Orastan-A by Gaspari Nutrition. Orastan-A was a very potent cutting agent that our U.S. government decided was too strong to be sold in the states. You could only get this product overseas, but many people would sell them on Ebay for the U.S. market. Winadrol is used to cut your body up, provide more definition, and decrease fat. If you want to get "ripped and shredded", this is pretty much what you would take. I have personally taken both Winadrol and Orastan-A. Even though Winadrol is supposed to be identical to Orastan-A, I honestly think it is more effective. Maybe it's just me, but the results I see are coming faster than my Orastan-A, cycle a while back. I take it before my workouts, and I seem to just power through them with all the energy Winadrol gives me.

The beauty of Winadrol is it's non-methylated. This means, unlike most other anabolic compounds, it has very little toxic effect on your liver. So, liver support is not really necessary when cycling Winadrol. In fact, many women are actually starting to use it as an alternative fat burner. Think of a "souped up" Venom or Lipo-6 and you get the idea of what Winadrol can do.

What I like most about Winadrol is there is absolutely NO marketing/advertising hype around it. You won't see commercials for it, and you won't see any ads in magazines either. The product sells because it works. And works very well I might add. Customers buy it to try it out. Once they see it's working, they tell all their friends and relatives, and so on. To me this is a sign of a great product - when word of mouth pushes sales. We are having a hard time keeping this product in stock as the manufacturer tries to keep up with demand. In less than a month, Winadrol has taken the #2 spot in terms of units sold behind Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein.

As the title says, this is my prediction for Winadrol. It will be a behemoth in the making with no marketing or advertising hype behind it.

You can buy Winadrol at our website, www.advantagesupplements.com.

Until next time.
